‘stinger’ is a hand-stitched, punch-needle art work created in 2023. This piece is rare in my catalogue of work, as the traditional (tufted) side faces forward, giving ‘stinger’ a thicker, ruggier surface and texture. I began this work on the porch of a friend’s lake house, where wasps had built a nest and flew about. My fear and fascination led me to create this fiber piece while sharing space with these creatures. ‘stinger’ is a pink/orange/black-dominant color palette.
This piece has been exhibited in the following shows: Art Monster / Pittsburgh, PA / Studio 4 (2024) | Still Frame / New Castle, PA / The Atrium Gallery in partnership with The Hoyt Museum (2025-2026)
Materials: wools + raw linen + stained pine frame.
Treated with permethrin to protect wool from larvae.
Custom-framed and ready to hang.
