Still Frame: Moments in Wool

  • The Atrium Gallery at UPMC Jameson 1211 Wilmington Road New Castle, PA, 16105 United States (map)

“The frame announces that, between the part of reality that was cut away and this part, there is a difference; and that this segment which the frame frames is an example of nature as representation, nature as sign.” - Rosalind E. Krauss

Still Frame: Moments in Wool is a series of static images that suggest a greater tapestry, inviting the viewer to pause and enter a wider landscape through the portal of a single moment. Each work, created through the slow and meditative process of punch needle rug hooking, explores the tension between a singular image or composition and the broader field implied outside the frame.

Installed at the Atrium Gallery at UPMC Jameson (New Castle, PA), in partnership with Arts and Education at the Hoyt, this exhibition will be on display through February 4th, 2026. All work is for sale and can be previewed and purchased HERE.

From the program:

“Fitzpatrick specializes in creating hand-stitched punch needle rug art, which she describes as ‘wool paintings.’ Her practice incorporates a wide range of techniques including rug-hooking, punch-needle embroidery, spinning, and wood-working. Her work often challenges traditional notions of fiber art by incorporating non-traditional materials and experimental methods. Teal’s artistic vision has been showcased in solo exhibitions such as ‘The Woolen Tarot’, a collection of 78-pieces that re-imagine the tarot deck through fiber art techniques, ‘Art Monster’, exploring the shared space of gender and creative practice, ‘A Collection of Oddities’, a study of the uncanny, and ‘Each Station, A Portal’, a series of works inspired by images seen through train windows on a cross-country journey.”
